Changes in 2022

Nomination Day

Further to the amended Municipal Elections Act, Nomination Day has moved to August 19, 2022, for the 2022 municipal elections. Nominations open May 1, 2022.

Paper Ballot & Internet Voting (Hybrid Voting)

The voting method has changed from paper ballots with tabulators to a combination of paper ballots with tabulators and internet voting. During the voting period, electors will be able to vote remotely using their own devices in the comfort of their home or at one of several in-person polling stations that will be made available. Advantages of online voting include less travel, removing time constraints, fewer line-ups at polling stations, and improved accessibility for persons with disabilities or people who are ill or away from home.

If a person, corporation or trade union intends to spend money between May 2, 2022 and Voting Day (October 24, 2022), on advertisements or other materials that support, promote or oppose a candidate in the municipal election they are required to register as a third party advertiser with the City Clerk.
