Heavy Equipment Operator – Landfill

(Temporary – Full-Time)

Applications are invited for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator within the City of North Bay’s Public Works Division.  Under the direction of the Landfill Operations Supervisor, is responsible for the efficient operation of the Landfill Heavy Equipment.  The employee will be responsible for receiving, placing, compacting and covering waste from the general public in compliance with by-laws and Ministry of Environment guidelines.  Directs and guides the general public to designated dumping area.

Qualifications:  

  • Minimum Grade 12 Education or equivalent acceptable experience.
  • Must have three (3) years’ experience in the operation of a utility loader, dozer, excavator, landfill trash compactor and other various heavy equipment required in the landfill maintenance field.
  • Must have minimum 1 year experience plowing and sanding.
  • Must possess a valid SWANA – Landfill Operations Basics Certification.
  • Must possess a valid Firearms License.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with the public; good communication skills.
  • Sufficient clerical ability to complete daily reports.
  • Must be able to follow directions explicitly.
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Class “D” Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement.
  • Must have a good work, driver and operator record.
  • Applicants will be subject to equipment operations assessment.

Hours of Work:  40 hours per week on a rotating 10 hour shift basis (7 days a week)

Environment:  Unionized

Hourly Rate:  $30.03 per hour

Duration:  Temporary Full-Time (till approximately November 2023)
