The Corporation of The City of North Bay is accepting applications for the position of Landfill Operations Supervisor.  Reporting to the Manager of Roads, Traffic and Landfill Operations, this position is responsible for the administration and supervision of day to day operations and management of the Corporation’s Landfill Sites.  The incumbent is responsible for following the guidelines while maintaining compliance to Certificates of Approval for the operation and oversight of City Landfills.  Completes requirements of compliance protocols within the Environmental Services and Public Works Department including programs to protect air, surface/ ground water and land assets ensuring compliance to Provincial Standards.    The incumbent will respond to Environmental Emergencies in co-operation with the Landfill Coordinator; will support the Senior Facilities and Environmental Engineer, the Manager of Roads, Traffic and Landfill Operations and the Environmental Control Officer as required.

The successful candidate will possess the following key qualifications:

  • Civil Engineering Technology Certificate or Environmental Technology Certificate or a relevant Technical Certification / Diploma or Science Degree combined or minimum of 5 years of demonstrated relevant experience
  • 3 years demonstrated supervisory experience in a unionize environment
  • Understanding of legislation, standards and best practices pertaining to Landfill operations management
  • Must possess a restrictions free drivers’ license
  • SWANA Management of Landfill Operations (MOLO) Certification will be considered an asset
  • Certification or training in Project Management will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Contract Administration will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of electronics and controls and mechanical systems
  • Willingness to obtain Safety certificates in Confined Space Entry, Chainsaw, Propane and Possession and Acquisition License (PAL)
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite

The annual salary range for this non-union position is $69,157 – $86,438. We offer a comprehensive benefit package and are an Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) employer.
