Sewer & Water Operator-in-Training (OIT)

Applications are invited for the position of Sewer & Water Operator-in-Training (OIT) within the City of North Bay’s Public Works Division.  Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, Water & Wastewater, performs routine repairs, maintenance and installations to municipal water distribution, wastewater collection and storm sewer systems.

The successful candidate will perform all duties required of a Ministry of Environment Certified Operator-In-Training for both water distribution and wastewater collection including repairing water and sewer lines, sanitary sewers, manholes, storm sewers, catch basins and water service boxes; performing water turn-offs and turn-ons; repairing and maintaining fire hydrants and valves; unclogging of sewer lines and thawing frozen pipes.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 Education or equivalent acceptable experience.
  • Must possess and post a Water Distribution Operator-in-Training Certificate and a Wastewater Collection Operator-in-Training Certificate.
  • Must have good work habits and be able to carry out routine operations with minimum supervision.
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Class “D” Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement.
  • Have good knowledge of Safety Regulations and Procedures.
  • Available to participate in on call Duty System as required.

Hours of Work:   0730 hrs to 1600 hrs - Monday to Friday

Environment:  Unionized

Hourly Rate:  $27.80 per hour

Duration:  Permanent Full-Time
