Municipal/Development Engineer

(Contract – approximately 13 months)

The Corporation of the City of North Bay is accepting applications for the position of Municipal/Development Engineer. Reporting to the Senior Capital Program Engineer, this position is primarily responsible for engineering technical review and approval of private development submissions within the City. Additional duties may include assisting with capital works projects as well as undertaking traffic studies and preparing recommendations for traffic. The position provides engineering expertise, including interpretation, adaptation and implementation of established guidelines, standards, regulations, and best practices.

The successful candidate will possess the following key qualifications:

  • A university degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum 5 years demonstrated experience in municipal engineering or civil engineering consulting experience in support of municipal related infrastructure and/or development projects and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario. OR a three (3) year College Engineering Technologist diploma with CET designation with a minimum ten years’ experience in the civil/municipal engineering field and/or consulting experience in support of municipal related infrastructure and/or development projects
  • Knowledge of sustainable design
  • Advanced communication, problem solving conflict management skills
  • Excellent analytical and technical proficiency
  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills
  • Excellent time management and planning abilities
  • Experience with job task planning and organizing
  • Demonstrated development review experience
  • Demonstrated municipal engineering design experience providing municipal services (storm & sanitary sewers, and watermains) and road design, traffic impact studies
  • Demonstrated proficiency in stormwater management principles
  • Experience utilizing computer analysis techniques for sewer, water, and stormwater management systems
  • Experience in the use of spreadsheet design tools and desktop design methods
  • Demonstrated project management and contract administration experience
  • Demonstrated experience in traffic engineering
  • Familiarity with Highway Traffic Act and its regulations
  • Proficiency using office software, including word processing and spreadsheet development
