Active Transportation Route: weekend closures of Memorial Drive to continue until June 15

North Bay, ON – May 28, 2020 – In a continued effort to assist with physical distancing requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City will continue with weekend closures of Memorial Drive to vehicular traffic until the week of June 15.

The street will be closed this weekend between Regina Street and the Marina starting Friday, May 29, at 3 p.m. and will reopen Monday, June 1, at 8 a.m. The closure is designed to allow those who are cycling and walking to maintain a safe distance by using the roadway. Vehicles will be able to access the waterfront parking lots and Marina entrance. Signage indicating no through traffic will be posted ahead of both entrances to Memorial Drive along Lakeshore Drive and Main Street West.

After this weekend, Memorial Drive will be designated an active transportation route for each of the following two weekends, pending the painting of bike lanes on the paved portion of the road as part of a pilot project,
