Community invited to participate in Downtown cleanup

North Bay, ON – July 18, 2022 - Clean, Green and Beautiful North Bay is inviting community members to help spruce up a section of the Downtown by participating in a two-day cleanup on July 23 and July 24.

Supported by the City of North Bay, the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority and a number of other community groups and organizations, the cleanup will focus on the removal of weeds from planters, sidewalks, curbs and other cracks and crevices along Algonquin Avenue from Worthington Street West to Oak Street West.

Part of an ongoing effort to mobilize the community ahead of North Bay’s planned participation next year in Communities in Bloom, the cleanup will run from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on both days. Individuals and groups interested in pitching in for an hour are asked to register and to choose from a specified time at: https://forms.gle/PkxmVhDnmFNs3c3v5

“These sorts of events help to foster community pride, build partnerships and raise awareness about the importance of keeping our City clean, green and beautiful,” said Hariett Madigan, Chair of Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay. “Everyone is encourage to take part.”

Algonquin Avenue, between Worthington and Cassells streets, will be closed for the cleanup on Saturday, July 23. Bags will be supplied, although participants are asked to bring their own gloves and tools. Full recyclable garbage bags left at the roadside will be picked up by city crews at the end of each day. Participants are asked to meet at good2go at the corner of Foran and Oak streets upon arrival. There will be coffee and refreshments available for volunteers.

Communities in Bloom is a national and provincial program that recognizes community participation in projects involving beautification, heritage, and environmental awareness. Communities participate with other communities in their population category within their province and are judged under several categories including tidiness and floral displays. North Bay’s planned participant in the program next will be led by a collaboration of organizations.
