Fun Things to do at home for Family Day 2021
This is a craft activity that is not only fun, but will be a joy to look through in the future. Have your whole family pick out the best memories, photos, postcards, and other mementos- along with a handwritten note- into the capsule. Leave it somewhere hidden in your basement, where you’ll likely forget about it for a while.
There’s lots of tasty treats you can bake together as a family. If you split up the roles, and delegate based on what everyone would like to do, it will go smoothly. Your family will love to see the results of their (yummy) work, and it will be a bonding exercise.
If you make one trip to Pinterest, you’ll see lots of fun crafts you can do as a family on Family Day. One idea is to make a canvas with handprints of your whole family. You can do different colours for each member. Another idea is to make a picture collage. An activity that will help your family and kids get in touch with their heritage, is to make a family tree. If you have young kids, this is a great way of showing them where they came from.
Exercising as a family is always a good idea, and will show your kids why being active is important. Get your winter gear together and plan out a good area for a walk. Most neighbourhoods have good trails for winter hikes. After your adventure, your family can go home and make hot chocolate together. It’s a perfect activity for a chilly day.
Self-care is another important value to teach young kids, so that they know that it’s ok to sometimes slow down and relax with others. Stay in comfortable clothes all day, order some favourite take out and load up Netflix. This is something everyone will enjoy and a good way to stay warm, and make use of the day off.
Great food and a couple of good board games is really one of the best ways to spend family day. No matter how old or young your family is, this is something everyone will enjoy. Allow the competitiveness to come out in your family with a game of Monopoly. Get comfortable and play your family’s favourite music during the game night.
