NBMHC Photography & Video Contest

Local photographers and videographers are invited to make submissions of their work that best captures elements of North Bay’s heritage for a chance to win cash prizes.

The North Bay Municipal Heritage Committee’s annual photo contest officially launched Sept. 15, 2022 with submissions accepted until Jan. 31, 2023 at 4 p.m. The annual contest, which celebrates North Bay’s heritage and recognizes the local talent, has been expanded this year to include all ages and to allow for video submissions, as well as photos.

"We are excited about this year’s launch and the changes to our long-running photo contest. With these changes, we hope to receive an array of creative video and photo submissions and to see even greater participation," said Contest Chair Jeff Borden. “I would also like to thank the North Bay Society of Architects for its sponsorship, which has allowed us to increase the total prize amounts.”

Youth, young adult and adult photographers and videographers are encouraged to participate. A cash prize of $350 will be awarded for the best image or video submitted in the adult category, which includes those aged 22 or older. There will be a $250 cash prize for the best image or video submission in the young adult category, which includes those between the ages of 13 and 21; and $150 will be awarded for the top submission in the youth category, which includes those aged 12 and under. First place winners of each category will also receive a $100 Downtown North Bay Gift card.

Submissions must include content that captures elements and tell stories of the natural, built and/or human heritage of North Bay, demonstrating a clear connection to the history/development of the City of North Bay or the local community.

Photo submissions may highlight one or more of the following areas:

  • Built Heritage – Photos may include physical features that symbolize the built environment perhaps including traditional materials, including but not limited to, brick, plaster, wood, metal and stone. Such assets may include, but are not limited to, cathedrals, churches, cemeteries, factories, fences, houses, hotels, museums, water towers, culverts or bridges.
  • Natural Heritage – Photos may include sites that provide examples of natural evolution or outstanding natural beauty, including but not limited to, rare and/or endangered species (flora and fauna), waterways, park, river, creek or lake. However, in order for a photo to be considered for this category, the photo must demonstrate a connection between the natural environment and the history/development of the City of North Bay or how the natural environment has shaped the local community.
  • Human Heritage – Photos in this area may be symbolized by a historic group, organization, movement or event or characterized by a historic figure that helped to influence, shape or define the City of North Bay.
