Financial Services

The Financial Services Department is responsible for establishing and maintaining financial policies and procedures, producing timely and accurate financial information, and providing financial advice to Council and other departments. Major responsibilities include:

  • Providing financial information and reports to City Council, citizens, internal departments and external stakeholders to assist in decision making
  • Establishing and maintaining accounting systems, policies and procedures relating to the financial activities of the City
  • Billing and collection of municipal property taxes and water & wastewater charges
  • Preparation of the City's operating and capital budgets
  • Maintaining corporate purchasing by-law
  • Managing cash, investments and borrowing of funds
  • Preparing the City's annual consolidated financial statements
  • Processing accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Providing accounting and payroll services
  • Long term financial planning with a focus on fiscal sustainability
