STR Licensing Process

1. Determine if your property is appropriately zoned for a STR. Read the 'STR Licensing Information Document' and/or visit the Zoning Portal Web App on Explore North Bay and/or email zoning@northbay.ca or call (705)- 474- 0400 ext. 2401 for more information
2. If your property is eligible to operate a STR under the zoning requirements, you may apply online or by filling out the STR Licence Application Package
3. If the complete application is accepted, the Building Services Department will schedule a site inspection. To gain a better understanding of what will be required as part of the inspection, please review the inspection checklist. 
4. If the site inspection fulfills all requirements, the applicant will be issued a licence and all other associated documents
5. If a licence is not issued, the applicant may appeal the decision through an appeal process. For more information on the appeal process, see below. 

If the City has refused to issue or renew a STR licence, the applicant may appeal the decision to Council through a letter of appeal to the Chief Building Official within 10 days of the original decision. The basic steps of the Appeal Process are:

1. Applicant sends letter of appeal to the City's Chief Building Official within 10 days of the original decision
2. Applicant provides the reason for the appeal and the Order Appeal Fee of $1,600
3. The Appeal request may be added to the agenda of the next available Council meeting
4. Council makes the decision- this decision is final and binding and is not subject to review

Please note that licences must be renewed prior to their expiration. Licences expire 1 year from the date the licence was issued. To renew an existing licence, please fill out the 'Short Term Rental Renewal Application' form here.
