Housing Continuum

The Canadian Housing Mortgage Corporation (CMHC) describes the housing continuum as a concept used to describe the broad range of housing options available to help a range of households in different tenures (own or rent) to access affordable and appropriate housing. The concept enables to move away from a one-size-fits-all strategy, towards ‘the range of housing options available to different households on a continuum.’ The housing continuum includes homelessness, shelters and transitional housing, community housing, affordable rental, market rental, and homeownership.

Addressing the City of North Bay's housing shortage requires careful consideration of the entire housing continuum. The more missing pieces there are within the continuum, the more unstable the housing ecosystem becomes. Providing the City of North Bay with more and diverse forms of housing is a shared responsibility between Federal & Provincial governments, the City of North Bay, and the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB).
