Cassells Street Reconstruction Resumes May 4

North Bay, ON – May 1, 2020 – Reconstruction of Cassells Street is set to resume May 4, 2020 after a four week delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The provincial government has indicated that municipal construction projects and activities that deliver or support the delivery of services including sewage treatment and disposal, potable drinking water, and critical infrastructure repair and maintenance including roads, dams and bridges etc. can continue during the previously announced shut-down of non-essential businesses during the pandemic.

Health and safety of workers and the public is a top concern amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.  In compliance with requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated regulations and public health directives issued by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, measures will be in place to ensure a safe work environment for contractors and the public to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The contractor has provided training to its employees that includes, but is not limited to, social distancing, cleanliness, disinfection, etc. to ensure a safe work environment. During this period and the foreseeable future, all contact between property owners and the contractor’s personnel will be minimized using paper handouts, phone calls, and posted notices to the City’s website to provide construction updates.

The work, which includes sewers, watermain, road base, curbs, sidewalks, asphalt paving, Chippewa Creek Bridge and other ancillary work from King Street to the Provincial Hwy 11/17, is required to revitalize the City’s underground infrastructure and road. The project was originally slated for completion this year, but, as a result of the delay, some works will now be finished off in the spring and summer of 2021.
