Celebrate Canada Day in North Bay!

North Bay, ON – June 23, 2023 – The City of North Bay is counting down to its Canada Day celebrations.

Join us at the North Bay Waterfront on July 1st to commemorate Canada's heritage and diverse culture with a fun-filled day of activities and entertainment for all ages.

Sponsored by Canadian Heritage, CAA and Redpath, the Canada Day festivities will kick off at noon at the Kiwanis Bandshell with an opening ceremony and the singing of O’Canada. The winners of the Canada Day Poster Challenge will also be announced during the opening ceremony, with the winning artwork displayed during the celebrations.

Live performances will run from 12:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. including headliner, Gravitas, which will take to the stage at 8:30 p.m. There will be food vendors, interactive reptile and magic shows, face painting, balloon twisting and an interactive demonstration with the Near North Student Robotics Initiative’s FIRST Team 1305. The City will be serving up Canada Day cupcakes and the Canada Day Kid Zone returns this year with a wide range of supervised sporting activities.

The Heritage Railway & Carousel Company will be operating throughout the day and the North Bay Museum will be offering free entry into Science North’s Indigenous Ingenuity exhibit from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Thanks to Celebrate Canada funding, a fireworks finale presented by Pearson Tree Services will cap off the celebrations at approximately 10 p.m.

A total fire ban for the North Bay area, which includes recreational (consumer) fireworks, is expected to still be in place as of July 1 due to the current forest fire danger rating impacting Ontario.

After careful review and consideration, North Bay Fire and Emergency Services has determined at this time that the professional fireworks display set for Canada Day Celebrations will be allowed to proceed, conditional on weather.

The fire department undertook a thorough risk assessment and has noted that the fireworks will be set off over Lake Nipissing and that precautionary measures include having crews on hand during the display.

The Chief Commanda II fireworks cruise is scheduled to depart at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $30, plus HST, for adults and $20, plus HST, for children under 12. They can be purchased at the Chief Commanda II ticket office on the King’s Landing Wharf, or by calling 705-494-8167.
