City preparing outdoor rinks and new winter walking trail

North Bay, ON – Dec. 22, 2021 – City crews are busy preparing outdoor ice rinks for the season.

A total of 10 outdoor rinks will be maintained this winter including the Lee Park Skating Trail, which will have an added loop that will expand the length of the trail to a full kilometre. Circle Lake Rink will be closed this season due to construction.

New this winter, City crews will also be maintaining a 2.8-kilometer winter trail utilizing a portion of the Kate Pace Way for walking, snowshoeing and other non-motorized recreational activities. The new groomed trail will run from Lee Park to Marshall Avenue and will be accessible from the parking lots at Lee Park and Veterans Park.

The trail and outdoors rinks will be operational as soon as the weather allows. The Lee Park Skating Trail is expected to open in phases. Once ready, the skating trail lights will operate daily from dusk until 10 p.m. Heated washrooms at Lee Park will also be available daily for skaters and trail users between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m.
