North Bay Seeks Public Input for Road Safety Strategy

North Bay, ON – Oct. 23, 2023 – The City of North Bay is inviting public participation in the development of a strategy aimed at enhancing the safety of our city's streets and sidewalks.

Residents are encouraged to help shape this Road Safety Strategy by taking part in a survey and sharing their insights related to different modes of travel (walking, cycling, driving, or public transit), as well as prioritizing road safety issues such as distracted driving, speeding, and pedestrian or cyclist collisions.

To have your say, please complete the North Bay Road Safety Strategy Survey before Nov. 20, 2023. It will take about five minutes to complete, and participation is anonymous.

With more than 800 collisions occurring on City roadways each year – 100 of which result in a serious injury or a fatality – the development of this strategy is aimed at taking a broader approach to road safety within the City.

Led by the engineering consulting firm CIMA+, the development of the strategy will include a review of the City's existing transportation infrastructure standards and will rely on various resources to identify potential safety concerns within the City, including consultations with the public and stakeholders. Stay tuned for further information regarding the first in-person consultation session, scheduled for Nov. 22.

Once in place, the Road Safety Strategy will guide decisions on road design, traffic regulation, signage, and potential safety measures like automated speed enforcement. The strategy, expected for Council approval in summer 2024, aims to reduce the number of fatal and serious collisions and create safer roads for all travelers.
